Indestructible Hilux Meets Indestructible Pellets
De Sangosse UK × Front Row Video — Cereals 2026
The Brief
De Sangosse, the world's largest producer of slug pellets, needed a reason for people to stop at their stand at Cereals 2026 — one of the UK's biggest arable farming events. They had secured a genuine industry icon to help: the "Indestructible Hilux," the Toyota pickup made famous on Top Gear for surviving a wrecking ball, a fire, a caravan drop and a tower-block demolition, on loan from the Grampian Transport Museum.
But a truck on a stand is just a photo opportunity. De Sangosse UK's Head Of Marketing, Sarah, wanted more than product placement — she wanted the Hilux to actually say something about the brand. The brief was to connect the vehicle's reputation for durability to a genuine product benefit: pellet integrity that holds up under real farming conditions.
"I'd seen the videos, some of which you'd done together, and I thought they were absolutely inspired. As a marketer, I believe in doing things differently — you have to stand out."

The Approach
Front Row Video was brought in alongside presenter Sandy Kirkpatrick to develop and shoot a campaign film built around a simple idea: if the Hilux is famous for surviving anything Top Gear could throw at it, what happens when you put De Sangosse UK's slug pellets through the same treatment?
The result was a Top Gear-style parody — a series of escalating, deliberately ridiculous stress tests (from a shotgun blast to a barbecue fire) that mirrored the show's own tests, reframed around pellet performance. It's a format British audiences immediately recognise, built to travel.
The humour doesn't rely on explanation, it just needed two people who were prepared to fully commit to the comedy.
The production ran on a single-day shoot at Bartlow Estate, Cambridgeshire, with a tightly planned shot list and script, built collaboratively between Sandy, Sarah and Front Row Video in the lead-up. That planning mattered: the crew were working with farmers' time, a limited number of takes, and a one-shot indestructible Hilux — there was no room to improvise the whole thing on the day. At the same time, the brief left space to capture genuine, unscripted reactions on camera, which is where a lot of the film's best moments came from.
"I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather do it with other than front Row Video and Sandy."

The Craft
Parody only works if the thing it's parodying is done properly.
Our background is in narrative filmmaking, and that showed up in how the Top Gear format itself was treated — not just referenced, but studied.
Ahead of the shoot, Front Row Video broke down the mechanics of the classic Top Gear challenge films: how the scripts build a test through setup, escalation and punchline; how the edit paces each segment for maximum comic effect; the handheld, run-and-gun camera language that makes the tests feel spontaneous rather than staged; and the specific colour grade that gives the show its distinctive, slightly gritty, high-contrast look. Matching that grammar shot for shot — rather than loosely gesturing at it — is what made the parody land as an affectionate homage rather than a cheap imitation, and it's what let the pellet tests carry real comic weight instead of feeling like a bolted-on marketing gimmick.

The Execution
Pre-Production
Scene-by-scene planning and a clear shot list, refined through direct collaboration with the client rather than a standard "brief in, film out" process.
Production
A full 1-day shoot with local farmers supporting as crew (and tractor wranglers!), run to a tight schedule to respect everyone's time and ensure we capture all the content we need for the planned video.
post-Production
The film was delivered in an efficient time frame with a full colour grade (mentioned above) along with a full sound design and audio mix.
Leon and Sandy have collaborated on a number of projects together over the years, and that existing shorthand showed on set — each knowing what the other needed to pull the story together without having to spell it out.
"That team collaboration between yourselves was really important — you both know each other's strengths in terms of what you're needing to get."

The Result
"The films that you made were very inspirational to me in terms of what we could do. It was clear that we were working with experts."
Sarah, head of marketing, De Sangosse uk
stand traffic
The Hilux and the film became the stand's main draw at Cereals 2026, pulling in far more foot traffic than a typical exhibitor setup.
Social growth
Impressions, reach and follower growth rose sharply compared with De Sangosse UK's previous campaigns.
Celebrity attention
Jeremy Clarkson and Kaleb Cooper stopped by after hearing the Hilux was on site, generating unplanned press and social coverage.
beyond the uk
The campaign was also shared more widely across the business, helping showcase the work being carried out in the UK market.

on the ground
It generated positive feedback from customers and industry contacts, sparking conversations and reinforcing engagement around the topic.
The Finished Film
Why It Worked
The strength of the campaign was that the joke was never separate from the message. The escalating tests were fun to watch, but every one of them fed back into a real product claim about pellet integrity and consistency — durability under pressure, translated from a truck to a pellet. That balance between entertainment and message was the brief from day one, and it's what made the film memorable enough for people to talk about the brand by name rather than just the stunt.
It's also a good example of what changes when a client brings in a director rather than just a camera operator: the production benefited from a genuine three-way collaboration between Sarah's brand knowledge, Sandy's on-camera performance, and Front Row Video's ability to turn a strong idea into a shot list, a shoot day, and a finished film that could carry a campaign well beyond the stand itself.
"I think part of what is key is really working with someone that understands that whole storytelling piece — it's not just shooting video for the sake of it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you."
